Dear
Lake Martha Residents:
The
past two years of Curly-Leaf and Algae treatments have proved to be extremely
effective in reducing the Curly-Leaf and Algae, and increasing the water
clarity to a yearly average of over 7 feet. The water clarity measurements
taken this past summer are posted on our website at
Secchi Disk Readings.
These impressive treatment results are directly attributed to the number of
residents who signed up. Last year 36 residents signed up for a total of over
3,500 lakeshore feet treated. We need to have everyone’s support again this
year, so that together, we can continue to improve the quality of our lake.
Note that the quality of our lake has a direct impact on the value of our
property!
The
cost for the 2005 treatment is about the same as last year. The $750 DNR
permit fee will be covered the same as we did in 2004, the Lake Association
will collect a $10 permit fee for each weed treatment application, and the
Lake Association will cover the balance of the $750 permit fee.
The
cost of the Midwest AquaCare Curly-Leaf and Algae treatment service for 2005
is $1.92 per lakeshore foot, which is 1 foot of lakeshore by 100 feet out.
This is up slightly from $1.88 per lakeshore foot we paid last year. Midwest
AquaCare will bill each resident individually for the lakeshore footage
treated after the treatment has been applied. The treatment will be scheduled
for early May, or when the water temperature nears 60 degrees.
In
addition to the Midwest AquaCare treatment, the Lake Association will do a
secondary algae treatment in late June or early July, depending on the amount
of algae present at that time. The Lake Association will purchase Copper
Sulfate and apply it as necessary. This algae treatment will be applied to the
areas that are covered by the DNR permit. Copper Sulfate is non-toxic and has
no swimming restrictions and there is no license required to apply it.
Attached to this letter are instructions for filling out the treatment
application, DNR Permit signature form, and the Midwest AquaCare application
form. Please return the completed Midwest AquaCare treatment applications and
DNR signature form to Mike Rydberg or Craig Kasa by March 1st along with the
annual membership dues of $35 plus the $10 permit fee.
We
strongly encourage all lake residents to participate in this program, and to
contribute toward making Lake Martha a clean lake that we all can enjoy the
entire boating season.
Please
join us for the first 2005 Lake Association meeting on Friday April 8th
at 7pm at the Rydberg’s, 806 Halsey Ave SE. I look forward to seeing everyone
there.
Sincerely,
Mike
Rydberg
President, Lake Martha Association
